Competition: THE WATERFRONT LABORATORY Tromsø (Finalist)
The Super Kitchen is a prototype of an expanded community kitchen that invites strangers to participate, share and collaborate in preparing and eating food. The design proposal focuses on food and eating as a form of social construction that brings community together.
The installation integrates two basic elements of vertical movement – the stair & the ramp to generate the form. Every surface of the oblique structure is habitable and it represents a shift from structure to landscape, passive to active, visual to experiential, rigid to free, representative to interactive and playful.
These ‘free movement surfaces’ double up as meeting or workshop spaces. They also provide opportunities to experience the landscape in unexpected ways encouraging the city to turn towards the water.
